NewsSafe Stolen During Main Street Burglary09-13-2006: The Family Dollar store, located at 323 N. Main Street, Sweeny, was burglarized early Tuesday morning, September 12, 2006. Police believe that between the hours of Midnight and 2:00 a.m., an unknown burglar smashed the glass front door of the business, made unlawful entry, and stole a safe.
Police were notified of the burglary by a passing pedestrian. When police arrived at the store, a search of the premises revealed that the suspect had departed prior to the officer's arrival.
The Brazoria County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Unit was called to the location to collect forensic evidence.
Police are searching for a small safe used primarily for storing receipts, cash, and checks. The safe measures about 20" by 20" and weighs about 20 pounds. The safe contained approximately $2,000 in cash, checks, and receipts.
