Crime Statistics

In order to provide our citizens with the most reliable and comprehensive overview of crime figures and police activity in Sweeny, we have listed, in the four tables below, data regarding the following topics:

If you are concerned about other crime statistics or police activity figures, e-mail us your comment or question.  We will be happy to respond.

UCR

The Sweeny Police Department participates in the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program, which is a nationwide, cooperative effort of city, county, and state law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crimes.  Since its inception in 1930, the UCR system has been the most frequently cited national crime indicator.  Approximately 16,000 law enforcement agencies contribute data to this system.  This includes agencies at all levels of government and all types of departments, i.e., general law enforcement (Federal agencies, State and local police and sheriffs) and special departments (school, university, transit, and other types of authorities, and Indian tribes).

The Sweeny Police Department maintains a computer database of UCR data and information which is summarized and reported to the State of Texas and the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Section each month.  Each year, the FBI uses this data, along with data reported by other states, to publish "Crime in the United States".

The following table represents data collected for each of the crime index fields, and represents the total number of crimes reported to the Sweeny Police Department in each of the stated years.
